Our mission is to challenge, support and inspire our students to fulfil their potential and improve the world. Founded in 1963, we have been working with expatriate and Tanzanian families for over 50 years. Our longevity and strong international reputation has been developed through effective partnerships with our local community, strong academic results, and a well-balanced curriculum which allows students to explore their passions and interests.

IST has many strengths as a school community; a rigorous academic curriculum, experienced and devoted faculty members, strong parent support networks, excellent facilities and a belief in a balanced educational program. That being said, our greatest strength is our commitment to the unique nature of each child we serve. This belief pervades all that we do, and is central to our ability to reach our mission.

We are extremely proud of our school and the opportunities that exist for all students within the IST community. I invite you to explore our website to learn more about our school’s mission, vision, values and programs. If you have any questions about IST, please do not hesitate to contact us at your convenience.

FACILITIES

IST has two campuses, Elementary (3.2 hectares – 8 acres) located in the Upanga and Secondary (4.5 hectares – 11 acres) located Masaki/Msasani Peninsula (respectively) residential areas of Dar es Salaam.

The secondary campus has more than 50 classrooms, air-conditioned. It has a state of the art Science building and Design Technology lab which was opened in 2009. The most recent development was the Athletic Center which was opened in 2021.

The Elementary campus has more than 30 air-conditioned classrooms. Music and art classes have their own classrooms. There is an open field, covered courts, and a multipurpose hall on the property. The Early Childhood rooms were renovated in 2021.

After School Activities

After school activities (ASA) is an umbrella term for all learning activities taking place outside class hours. These include sports, international conferences, clubs and more. These activities help IST students develop interpersonal skills while extending their learning abilities outside the classroom.

As an IB school, IST’s ultimate goal is to produce graduates who are lifelong learners. To achieve this, we ensure that for IST students, learning takes place both inside and outside the classroom. This helps them understand early on that what is learned in class can be applied in real life and vice versa.

Every year, the activities director takes suggestions from the student council and teachers. And from there, activities for that year are set out. This helps ensure that students have a choice each year on what activity to pursue.
