Welcome

I would like to welcome you to Danube International School Vienna on behalf of our wonderful team of staff, students and parents.  Danube International School Vienna is a special and exciting place to be. Located in the heart of Vienna and the Prater Park we offer an ideal location for students to learn and grow.  Our goal is to engage learners from a young age to be problem solvers, inquirers and risk takers.  We do this by providing opportunities for all students to challenge themselves in an environment where learning is student-centred and each individual is celebrated for their effort and achievements.

We are a leading IB World School offering the International Baccalaureate, Primary Years Programme (PYP) Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP) for students from 3-18. Here at Danube International School Vienna we place the student at the centre of all we do to facilitate them to become lifelong learners. We achieve this through our school culture, which is rooted in the IB Mission statement, which states: The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

The school accommodates students from Early Years/Kita, 3 years old, to DP 17/18 years old. We accommodate them in a facilitated student centred learning environment, where we equip each child to succeed. Our excellent IB Diploma results are an average 98.72% pass rate with an impressive average of 33.5. Our highest earned score was a perfect 45 points.

We are now home to over 400 students coming from over 50 countries. We embrace our diversity and celebrate our uniqueness as we strive for excellence. We have a highly qualified and experienced staff representing a variety of nationalities and cultures, all well versed in teaching a diverse student body.  A culture of experiential and problem-based learning permeates the classroom, as students make meaning from their discoveries.

At Danube International School Vienna, we have a supportive and caring culture that encourages students to work together and inspire those around them. We feel it is our responsibility to nurture and guide each individual in a healthy and loving community to strive for personal best. The school’s warm and friendly family atmosphere is grounded in respect, trust, compassion and the ideal of service.  We hope to raise children to be adults that exhibit empathy and, in so doing, make a difference for others.

In addition to high academic standards, the international education that we offer focuses on four core components of emotional intelligence, cultural understanding, communication and collaboration. We aim to develop students to be independent learners and leaders in the global community. We provide a wide range of activities and experiences that will not only prepare our children for the future, but also make their school and personal life more enjoyable and rewarding. Focusing on the principles of ‘Engagement, Excellence, Excitement, Ethics and Empathy’, DISV is passionate about fulfilling its demanding vision to be a world leader in international education.

Danube International School Vienna is a special and exciting place to be and I look forward to welcoming you to our school community very soon.

Sincerely,

Kirsty Sharp

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE PRIMARY YEARS PROGRAM

We believe that it is important to provide students with hands-on learning experiences which encourage creative thinking, inquiry, and strong interpersonal skills. Through our IB Primary Years Program our students gain knowledge and learn to apply critical thinking skills, to innovate and to communicate with others. Our program emphasizes personal qualities such as integrity, honesty, open-mindedness, respect, compassion and empathy. We strive to develop the natural curiosity of learners by actively helping them to acquire the skills of inquiry and research; thus, supporting students in becoming independent learners who are intrinsically motivated and able to make responsible decisions following through on their individual interests.

As a community, we know that strong, positive home/school partnerships are the key to each child’s success as well as joy in learning and we work in partnership with parents to ensure each child flourishes and grows to his or her full potential. We value open communication which we know is an essential component of these partnerships.

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE DIPLOMA PROGRAM

We were authorised to deliver the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program in 1992, the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (MYP) in 2003 and the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP) in 2012.

The guiding principles of the curriculum used at Danube International School Vienna are:

  • Students should develop a holistic attitude to knowledge; they should see the subjects they learn as an integrated whole.
  • Students‘ own cultural experiences and backgrounds, and those of our diverse teaching staff, are a valuable learning resource; we encourage understanding through intercultural awareness.
  • The ability to express ideas both reflects and deepens understanding; students‘ communication skills are central to their learning.

The aim of all IB programmes is to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world.
